Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Sport in Ontario, has announced that there will be no body contact in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this year, a policy which is inconsistent with the risk of transmission, the purpose of the league, and the professional counterpart National Hockey League (NHL) approach to the same issue.

This petition is for Lisa MacLeod and the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to reconsider the prohibition on body contact and permit it during the season for the following key reasons:

- removing body contact would prejudice player development and disadvantage prospects who are trying to get into the NHL, where it is a part of the game and currently permitted even considering COVID-19

- body contact has been allowed in Canadian games played in the NHL

- proximity and risk of transmission is still present with players sitting on the bench and during face-offs

- the risk of transmission has not been empirically proven to be greater with body contact in a skating format

With your support, we hope to have body contact permitted rather than this excessive policy, and to allow players and fans to have the season they deserve.
