Every day, as a citizen who values privacy and the freedom that comes with it, I am alarmed by the growing presence of flock cameras in our neighborhoods. These surveillance tools, which capture license plate information from every passing vehicle, represent a grave intrusion into our personal lives. It's the kind of mass surveillance you'd anticipate from countries such as North Korea!  Not from a country that champions individual liberty and freedom.

The use of flock cameras is expanding at an alarming rate across the United States. These cameras collect sensitive data without the explicit consent of the people being monitored, violating our inherent rights to privacy. Millions of vehicles are scanned everyday, resulting in massive amounts of data being stored and potentially misused. Flocks whole defense is that your license plate is public. And yet the once off viewing and scanning by an on duty officer is NOT the same as an entire searchable database of all of its movements!  That also includes the entire scan of every vehicle, not just its license plate, along with its occupants.

This invasive technology is not only unnecessary but also prone to errors and misuse. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has repeatedly raised concerns about the misuse of surveillance data and its impact on civil liberties. When local law enforcement agencies deploy these cameras without oversight, it creates opportunities for abuse and mistakes, which can lead to wrongful criminal charges against innocent citizens.

We cannot ignore the financial burden that flock cameras place on taxpayers. The cost of installing and maintaining these extensive networks of cameras is exorbitant, diverting much-needed resources away from other critical public services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

We can take practical steps to address public safety issues without infringing on people's rights. Community policing initiatives, transparency in policing efforts, and the use of technology to support rather than invade can be just as effective if not more so.

This petition is a call to action for the government to listen to its citizens and prioritize their rights. We must urge our lawmakers to ban flock cameras nationwide and invest in safer, more democratic alternatives. Together, we can ensure that our country remains a place where privacy is respected and preserved.
