The Issue

As a small business owner who fell victim to a phishing scam through Meta's Business Manager, I experienced firsthand the devastating effects it can have. The email appeared completely legitimate, from a real facebookmail.com address, yet it resulted in me losing access to both my Facebook and Instagram accounts for my business, Morena's Corner. Despite Meta being aware of such scams, they did not provide any warning to protect us.

The lack of immediate support from Meta left me scrambling to regain control over my digital assets, which are crucial for engaging with my audience and sustaining my business. Phishing scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, targeting small businesses that rely heavily on social media platforms. Without rapid assistance, the fallout from such attacks can be catastrophic, leading to financial losses, reputational damage, and more.

Meta needs to implement immediate support solutions specifically for phishing victims. This means providing a direct line of communication for quick assistance, transparent guidelines on how to reclaim accounts, and proactive measures to prevent future breaches. Their current system leaves businesses vulnerable and feeling abandoned at their most desperate times.

Additionally, it is critical for Meta to proactively educate users about ongoing scams and the signs to look out for. It is astonishing that, even though they knew about these sophisticated scams, there was no warning or prevention effort initiated. Small businesses are the backbone of our communities and deserve to be safeguarded from cybersecurity threats.

The scam is still ongoing using Meta’s own platforms to dupe users. The scammers still have access to Facebook while verified users are permanently banned with no recourse.

By signing this petition, you are calling on Meta to take responsibility and provide the necessary support tools for businesses affected by phishing scams. Let's compel Meta to act—supporting small business owners in protecting what they've worked tirelessly to build. Sign now to demand change!
