Require Constitutional Law Training for President Trump and His Senior Officials

Require Constitutional Law Training for President Trump and His Senior Officials
The Issue
President Trump recently said — on national television — that he doesn’t know whether due process applies to everyone on U.S. soil. When reminded that the Constitution guarantees it, he replied, “I don’t know” multiple times.
This isn’t a minor gaffe. It’s a dangerous admission from someone entrusted with protecting the Constitution. And it’s not just about one person — this refusal to ensure due process is echoed throughout his administration, where officials are pushing aggressive deportations, ignoring court orders, and threatening judges who uphold the law.
This disregard for due process is already playing out in real and devastating ways:
- Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident, was wrongfully deported to El Salvador, where he was imprisoned without communication. The Supreme Court ordered his return — but the administration ignored the ruling, and Trump questioned what “facilitate” even means.
- Under expanded expedited removal policies, people far from the border have been deported without hearings, legal counsel, or the chance to prove lawful presence.
- Asylum seekers have been sent back without having their claims heard, violating both U.S. and international law.
- Minors and families have been deported without due notice or proper legal review, especially under fast-track enforcement orders.
- Trump’s administration has labeled individuals as "national security threats" or "gang members" without presenting evidence — denying them hearings and court review.
We cannot afford leaders who are confused about the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. That’s why we’re calling for a mandatory, public constitutional law training for President Trump and his senior staff — taught by respected, nonpartisan legal scholars and focused specifically on due process, equal protection, and the separation of powers.
If high school students are expected to learn how the Constitution works, our president should too. There is no shame in learning — but there is real danger in pretending ignorance is strength.
Sign this petition to demand accountability, not just for political reasons, but to protect the rights of every person in America.
