The Issue

Living near Leagrave, I witness firsthand the daily struggles faced by residents and visitors attempting to navigate our local train station. For those using wheelchairs, parents with prams, the elderly, and anyone carrying luggage, the current lack of accessibility at Leagrave Train Station poses a significant barrier to access. While Luton station progresses with installing lifts, Leagrave remains neglected, forcing many to confront the  task of climbing large sets of stairs.

This is more than just an inconvenience. It's a matter of equal access and safety. Every traveller should have the ability to use public transportation with ease, irrespective of their physical condition or the size of their luggage. This not only limits accessibility for those with mobility challenges but also for families, tourists, and our elderly citizens who deserve and require a means to travel without such physical barriers.

Our local MP Sarah Owen has heard our pleas for infrastructural improvements at Leagrave but we have yet to see any action due to lack of funding. The Disabilities Discrimination Act and the Equality Act urge us to create an environment that is supportive and welcoming for everyone, ensuring that no one is left behind. Ignoring these needs not only goes against these legislations but goes against the core of what community and inclusion truly mean.

We call upon Network Rail and the local council to allocate the necessary resources to install lifts and ramps, making Leagrave Train Station a model of accessibility and inclusivity. Let us ensure that everyone, regardless of their physical capabilities, can travel conveniently and safely.

Please sign this petition to support our request. Your signature will help raise awareness and fuel the momentum necessary to instigate these vital changes and make Leagrave a place everyone can access.
