Request to Rezone Taxi Zones at Rouse Hill and Tallawong Metro Stations into Kiss and Drop

The issue

Overview: With the Metro expansion set to service more stations and connect Northwest Sydney to the Sydney CBD, the number of commuters using the Metro will increase significantly from August 2024.

The two key Metro stations servicing Northwestern Sydney are Rouse Hill and Tallawong. Currently, the parking situation at these stations is inadequate. Tallawong station’s parking fills up by 7 AM, and Rouse Hill station lacks any parking facilities for commuters.

Why is this important?

Underutilized Taxi Zones: Both stations have designated taxi zones that are almost always empty and unused. This space could be better utilized to benefit the increasing number of commuters.
Increased Convenience for Commuters: Rezoning these taxi zones into kiss and drop zones, at least during peak hours, would streamline the drop-off and pick-up process. This would reduce congestion and improve the overall commuter experience, especially during peak hours and rainy days.
Enhanced Safety: Properly designated kiss and drop zones can improve safety by reducing the need for illegal or unsafe drop-offs in non-designated areas. This can help prevent accidents and ensure a smoother flow of traffic around the stations.
Reduction of Inconvenience and Fines: Currently, commuters face inconvenience during peak hours as council inspectors issue fines to those dropping off or picking up passengers in non-designated areas. Rezoning these taxi zones would alleviate this issue and provide a more commuter-friendly environment.
Support for Public Transport: With the new extended line to the city opening in August and the number of commuters using the metro increasing, it is highly recommended to implement these changes to support the growing number of commuters.
Call to Action: We urge Transport for NSW and Minister Jo Haylen to consider this proposal and undertake the necessary steps to rezone the taxi zones at Rouse Hill and Tallawong Metro Stations into kiss and drop zones or shared zones. This change would significantly improve the functionality of these stations and benefit the community at large.
