Growing up in Markham, the library was a sanctuary where imagination soared and communities bonded. Unfortunately, today I find myself unable to feel the same pride and connection I once did. This is deeply personal as someone who cherishes what the library represents and stands for. The current leadership under the CEO of Markham Public Library has consistently disappointed and hindered the library’s mission of being a welcoming and resourceful community hub.

For years, library patrons and employees have voiced concerns over mismanagement, poor decision-making, and a lack of vision for the institution's future. One pressing issue is the noticeable decline in community programs, which have been at the heart of engaging readers and learners of all ages. According to recent reports, funding for essential programs has fallen by 20% in the last three years, while user visits have decreased by 15% annually. This trend suggests a disconnect between leadership initiatives and the community's needs.

The pandemic era undoubtedly posed challenges, yet neighboring libraries managed to adapt by harnessing technology and community feedback.
