The issue

We call on the Australian Government to conduct a transparent and independent review of the visa and residency status of Parsa Namaki, son of former Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki, in light of serious concerns raised within the Iranian community regarding background, affiliations, and potential connections to senior officials of the Iranian regime.

For many members of the Iranian diaspora, questions of accountability are not abstract  they are deeply personal. Families across Iran experienced devastating loss during the COVID-19 pandemic, while public debate and widespread reporting raised concerns about decisions by senior officials regarding vaccine procurement and delays that may have contributed to unnecessary suffering.

Within this context, members of the community have expressed concern that individuals connected to powerful figures of an authoritarian system may be able to live, study, and benefit from opportunities in democratic countries without appropriate scrutiny.

Australia is a country that values transparency, fairness, and the rule of law. Ensuring that visa and residency decisions are consistent with national interest, ethical standards, and security considerations is essential to maintaining public trust.

This petition does not seek punishment without due process. Rather, it calls for transparency, review, and accountability consistent with Australian law.

We respectfully request that Australian authorities:

Conduct a thorough review of Parsa Namaki’s visa and residency status, including the circumstances under which it was granted.

Examine any potential affiliations, undisclosed connections, or benefits linked to organisations associated with the Iranian government or the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Determine whether any misrepresentation, undisclosed information, or national interest considerations exist.
Take appropriate action in accordance with Australian law if concerns are substantiated.

Many victims of authoritarian systems are unable to leave their country or access the freedoms available in democratic societies. For members of the Iranian community, transparency around who is able to benefit from those freedoms and under what circumstances

matters deeply.

We respectfully urge the Government of Australia to treat this matter with seriousness and to ensure that decisions are guided by transparency, fairness, and the national interest.
