Intervene on the behalf of the people and small businesses of Missouri being affected by the National Park Service on are Missouri National Ozark Scenic Riverways.

The Issue

The NPS under the guidance of Bill Black in Missouri is pushing to close 65 miles of equestrian trails along our Missouri Scenic Riverways. Missouri is in the top 10 states in the nation with its horse population. It generates millions of dollars for the state between feed, hay, trucks, trailers, fuel, tack, etc. People come to Missouri from other states to buy land to retire and be able to ride there horses in some of the most beautiful country of our Nation. This proposal is shunning a huge industry for the State of Missouri, an industry that creates many jobs and millions of dollars in revenue in many different genre's. Missouri is surrounded by Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennesse, Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska who cator to the horseback riding industry. By taking away these trails, these people will be going to these surrounding states and Missouri will be loosing millions of dollars in tax revenue.  There are many small businesses being forced to close up shop because of this new law going into place. We are talking "mom and pop" businesses in a part of the state that has no other jobs going for it. This industry is their livlihood. Closings so far include canoe rentals for floating (Jadwin, MO), Whispering Pines Trailride (Jadwin, MO),and other businesses being affected in the surrounding communities, such as convenience stores, cafes, grocery stores, campgrounds,  novelty stores in and around Salem, MO "The Gateway to the Ozark National Scenic Riverways." In an economy that is barely surviving, this is a devastating blow to the small businesses of MO, not to mention the education of Missouri's history to our children, and allowing visitors to enjoy our State and possibly move here, providing more tax dollars to our State, as well as opening the Nations eyes to all that Missouri has to offer. On behalf of Salem, it's surrounding communities, and the million plus visitors to this part of Missouri, we ask you to intervene by giving access back to these trails and riverways. Thank You.
