Renovate and Upgrade the Northeast Corridor North Philadelphia Station
The Issue
I may not be a resident of North Philadelphia, but it is impossible to ignore the dire state of the Northeast Corridor North Philadelphia Station. This station, despite being a crucial hub for many commuters, has been left in disrepair and lacks basic passenger amenities. There is no ticket office, no waiting room, no ticket vending machines - even accessibility for disabled individuals has been overlooked since the elevators were condemned in 2001. Since it was once wheelchair accessible and it is no longer such, it is in violation of the law. And interestingly enough, it was originally designed to be an intercity station rather than a commuter rail station.
The responsibility for this station seems to be a game of hot potato between Amtrak and SEPTA. Each organization points fingers at the other when asked about renovation plans. This lack of accountability leaves thousands of passengers who rely on this station daily in an unacceptable situation.
North Philadelphia deserves better than this. The residents deserve a fully functioning station that caters to their needs and ensures their journeys are as seamless as possible. It's time we demand action from both Amtrak and SEPTA to take responsibility for renovating the Northeast Corridor North Philadelphia Station.
We cannot allow this issue to remain unresolved any longer! Let's stand together and demand immediate action for the renovation and upgrade of our local train station! Please sign this petition today!
