Renounce the Term "Labor" in the International Labor Organization's (ILO) Name

The Issue

This petition is both personal and of significant importance to me. As individuals with value, dignity, and worth, we should not view ourselves or others as 'labor', implying that we are another commodity to be bought and sold.

The International Labor Organization ILO, a United Nations agency, uses the term 'labor', a term rooted in agriculture, trade, and industry, and has implications of force, ownership, and exploitation. It subtly lowers the holistic human aspect of a worker to a simple tool, a mere asset to be bought, sold, and replaced.

This plea isn't about semantics or political correctness. It's about respect, dignity, and fair representation in our language. As per the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), everyone has the right to gainful work and to the free choice of his work conditions. The term 'labor' fails to uphold this as it reduces individuals into interchangeable parts of a massive, impersonal machine.

We, the people, are not cattle, nor are we owned. We have the right to fair work conditions and the right to be treated and referred to with respect and dignity. It is time we ask the ILO to change its language and rename itself, removing the term 'labor' to reflect a more respectful denotation of us, the workforce.

Let us remind the world that we are more than simply 'labor'. We are human beings deserving of respect. Please join the call to sign our petition to challenge and change the perception and language used by the ILO.
