The Issue

We, the undersigned citizens of India and members of the global community, respectfully urge the Government of India and the Ministry of Civil Aviation to consider renaming Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), New Delhi, as Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur International Airport.

Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the Ninth Guru of the Sikhs, is remembered for his supreme sacrifice in 1675 to uphold the right to freedom of religion and human dignity. His life and martyrdom are not only an integral part of Sikh history but also a symbol of India’s enduring values of unity, tolerance, and spiritual courage.

Honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's 350th Shaheedi Diwas through the renaming of the nation’s capital airport would serve as a timeless reminder of India’s heritage — one that transcends religious and regional boundaries, and celebrates the idea of freedom and faith for all.

This request is made with full respect to all leaders and historical figures, and in the spirit of promoting national harmony and recognition of India’s diverse spiritual legacy.

We therefore appeal to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Airports Authority of India, and the Union Government to review this proposal under existing naming procedures, and to consider this renaming as a tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s unparalleled contribution to India’s moral and spiritual foundation.

Jai Hind.
