The Issue

I recently found myself deeply hurt by the cruel comments left on my mugshot photo shared on the "Say Cheese" Facebook page. This experience was not only distressing for me but has been devastating for countless others who’ve found their images posted without consent. The whirlwind of negative and bullying comments that follow each post is incredibly harmful, impacting people's mental health and reputations.

The "Say Cheese" Facebook page has gained notoriety for sharing mugshot photos and allowing its audience to comment freely, often leading to severe cyberbullying. The internet should be a place of information and connection, not a platform for public shaming. It is essential to remember that behind each photo is a person, with feelings and dignity that deserve respect.

According to The Cyberbullying Research Center, approximately 34% of the students in the United States have experienced cyberbullying in their lifetime, with mugshots often becoming a target for such attacks. Victims of this page's exploitative content can suffer long-term psychological effects, including anxiety, depression, and in severe cases, even PTSD.

Our goal is simple: to have Facebook remove the "Say Cheese" page and limit the public humiliation and bullying that emerge from such public exposure. Facebook's community standards already condemn bullying and harassment, making the continued existence of such pages contradictory and damaging.

To prevent further harm, we urge Facebook to take immediate and decisive action against this page. Implementing stricter controls on the publication of mugshot images, enforcing their own community standards, and providing a reporting system specifically for content that targets individuals negatively could significantly reduce bullying on their platform.

By signing this petition, you stand with us against online bullying and for the protection of vulnerable individuals whose dignity and mental health deserve to be safeguarded. Join us in demanding Facebook take a stand—and live up to its commitment to creating a safe and respectful online environment. Please sign and share widely.
