Remove psychometric testing from job applications

Remove psychometric testing from job applications
The Issue
As someone with autism, I've always faced unique challenges during job application processes. My brain works differently compared to others, and this difference is highly pronounced when it comes to psychometric tests. Despite being granted extra time as a reasonable adjustment, I consistently struggle with these tests, and feel marginalized by them. Even if I were given five or even ten years to complete one, the outcome would likely be the same. Unfortunately, recruitment sites show little concern for the disadvantages such tests pose to neurodiverse individuals.
Psychometric tests, used by numerous employers to supposedly gauge a candidate's aptitude, can be inherently biased against individuals with neurodiverse conditions. According to research by Yale University, people on the autism spectrum often process information in non-linear ways, making these tests particularly challenging. These tests do not accurately reflect potential job performance and inadvertently exclude talented candidates.
There are more practical and inclusive approaches to assessing candidates. Implementing practical interviews, where candidates can demonstrate their skills, would be a far better alternative. Such interviews can be adapted to provide an environment where individuals with different brain workings are not only allowed but encouraged to flourish. A study by the National Autistic Society found that autistic individuals excel in roles that match their skills, not their test-taking abilities.
If recruitment sites were to eliminate psychometric testing, not only would it foster diversity and inclusivity, but it could also tap into incredible talents and perspectives currently overlooked. Let's push for a more inclusive future in recruitment. Let's advocate for practical interviews that offer a fair chance for everyone, regardless of how their brain processes information.
Sign this petition to urge recruitment sites to remove psychometric testing and adopt more practical and inclusive candidate assessment methods. Let's create a more equitable job application process for all.
