The Issue

In our final year of high school, we face important decisions and significant academic pressures that will shape our futures. As a we  go through our toughest academic year, the pressing demands of the CLC 12 capstone project weigh heavily on our shoulders. The capstone project, done when many of us have already decided our post-secondary and career paths, adds unnecessary stress in an already overwhelming year filled with university applications and critical final exams.

Instead of this burdensome capstone, I want a more beneficial approach: integrating career exploration assignments into a CLC 11 class. By shifting this focus to CLC 11, students could begin researching and exploring their dream careers earlier, without the added pressures of CLC 12.

Removing the capstone from CLC 12 not only removes stress but also enhances meaningful engagement with career goals before these goals become immediate choices in our final year. It empowers us with the opportunity to explore passions and interests when we are not overwhelmed by the decisions of post-secondary life.

I want the British Columbia Ministry of Education to reconsider the structure of the CLC 12 course. We need a system that truly supports students in preparing for the future—not hinders them. Please sign this petition to support revamping the CLC curriculum to better serve the interests and needs of BC students.
