Hello fellow FCPS Students. I'm assuming you've heard of the app called Lightspeed. There are various problems with this app. The reason I am starting this petition is because I have privacy concerns with this application. Please read the following:

Lightspeed is a system used by schools to monitor student behavior online. The teachers using Lightspeed have access to your entire computer. They can see your history, and every tab you have open. The teachers using it can control you computer from their desks at any given time. This is a major infiltration of privacy and should be stopped.

But that's not the only issue with Lightspeed. There is a branch of Lightspeed called Lightspeed Filter Agent that blocks websites. This version of Lightspeed is controlled by an AI. This AI blocks websites that it thinks aren't school appropriate. However, this AI can also block websites that are perfectly fine. Even google can be blocked by this.

Teachers can also control this feature to block websites. This can also get out of hand, as teachers are able to block every single website but the one they assigned you. This can make it hard to get help on an assignment you don't understand.  If your teacher forgets to unblock everything before the end of class, this can last for the entire school day.

Lightspeed also removes students' freedom. Usually when students have free time they complete homework and do other activities. But with Lightspeed on their computer, students are scared to go to any other website, even if it's school related. This makes students have more things to do when they get home and consequently stresses them out, and makes them less efficient during school hours. 

Although the SR&R uses the acceptable use policy to take away students' privacy, I feel that they shouldn't be watched 24/7. As I said before constant surveillance hinders students performance overall

In conclusion, Lightspeed is very invasive to student privacy and causes high levels of stress, which is why it should be removed from school districts, or replaced with another, less intrusive system.
