Petition to Remove Flock Safety ALPR Cameras from Apache Junction, Arizona

We, the undersigned, are residents and community members of Apache Junction who value both public safety and personal privacy. We are deeply concerned about the use of Flock Safety automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras in our neighborhoods.
While these cameras are marketed as crime-prevention tools, they raise serious issues:
Privacy Risks – ALPR systems collect and store detailed location data on every vehicle, regardless of whether the driver has done anything wrong. This creates a permanent record of our movements that could be misused or accessed without proper oversight.
Potential for Misuse & Errors – ALPR data can be shared with outside agencies, including federal immigration enforcement, and false matches have led to wrongful stops and detentions in other communities.
Cost to the Community – These systems require ongoing fees and maintenance that could be better invested in proven, community-based safety programs.
Lack of Transparency – Many residents were not informed or consulted before these cameras were installed, limiting our ability to have a say in decisions that affect our daily lives.
We respectfully request that the City of Apache Junction and all local HOAs:
End any current contracts with Flock Safety.
Remove existing ALPR cameras from our neighborhoods.
Commit to a public process before adopting any future surveillance technology.
We believe that safety and privacy can coexist — and that our community deserves solutions that protect both.
