Remove Dr Musharraf Hussain as leader of Karimia Institute
Remove Dr Musharraf Hussain as leader of Karimia Institute
The Issue
Dear the Nottingham Ummah.
First of all this is not to discredit any of the work Dr Musharraf Hussain has done. He has been a major pillar within the Nottingham community and has helped strive our community to a higher place and allowed us to gain respect from the city. However after many controversies throughout his time as the leader of Karimia institute, we believe that it should be time for him to step down. The upcoming generation of Muslims need to be protected and have an environment in which they can improve and practise their deen without the worry of external forces such as ‘prevent’ from causing them issues. This is a paramount issue as there have been reports regarding Dr being funded by the prevent scheme.
Furthermore, after the controversial decision to change the method of confirming Eid via astronomical calculations from the traditional sunnah method we have, we believe not only is this a step backwards but an attempt to divide the Ummah within Nottingham. Families from ahle sunnah wal jammah should not have to worry about their fellow relatives following a different Eid day due to Dr’s opinion. The overall opinion of many within nottingham has been that Dr should step down and allow for the new generation to continue helping the Nottingham Ummah.
This is not a personal attack on Dr as he initially helped bring a mosque to the local community at a time where there were very few options for Muslims to go to. Not only that but he has helped establish more integration within the wider Nottingham sphere. We believe that going forward the leader of Karimia institute should be changed. This petition has been made for the betterment of the Nottingham ummah especially the youth. At a time when many youths feel discouraged to go and learn in the mosque. We shouldn’t have to tell them not to go to Karimia because the leader has made decisions which cause our fellow brothers and sisters to question Dr’s aqeedah.
Although this has been setup to remove him we should not use this as an opportunity to attack or belittle him. Many Ulema from outside of Nottingham and within have also spoken out about Dr’s controversies and have tried to advise him. We do not want one of the biggest mosques within our community to have a tarnished reputation because of this.
Going forward, we would like to have the opportunity to have the leadership of someone who can provide not only a vast amount of knowledge but also has the ability to re-connect to the youth and does not cause controversies whereby families from Ahle Sunnah wal Jammah have different Eids.
We would also like to further add that we want more cohesion and unity among all Ahle Sunnah Wal Jammah mosques and to defuse any past squabbles. This currently won’t be possible as following the Eid controversy, many masjids decided to leave the original committee and setup a new one. This is why once a new leader is in place we would like to further see the unification of all Sunni mosques.
In a time where many of our fellow brothers and sisters have been oppressed and de-humanised all around the globe. The last thing we want is disunity within our own local community.
Please sign & forward this petition to allow the Nottingham Ahle Sunnah Wal Jammah community to strive forward and continue the improvement of our deen. At a time where there is a lot of fitna going around our community, we should stay united and not have to worry about divisions between inner families.
JazakAllah khair-un for reading this petition and helping us as a community to grow stronger and get closer to our deen.
