Remove Claudia Perez as tenant association President of Washington houses and her husband

Remove Claudia Perez as tenant association President of Washington houses and her husband
The Issue
My name is Maria Zayas, and I am a resident at 220 E 102nd St, New York, NY. On June 25th, the elevators in our building were non-operational. During this time, I, along with two other elderly individuals, found ourselves stranded outside. Despite being clearly in need of assistance, we received no help from Claudia Perez, the current president of the tenant patrol association, who is supposed to act in the community’s interest.
That morning, Claudia Perez's actions escalated when she sought to instigate a conflict with my daughter, even going as far as involving her husband who is sergeant of arms of the association to engage in a physical altercation. This situation worsened to the point that my grandson was reluctantly drawn into the fray. It is evident that Claudia Perez has demonstrated a consistent pattern of favoritism and disrespect towards community members, ignoring the needs of seniors and failing to provide any meaningful activities for the youth.
At a vulnerable 70 years old and reliant on a walker, I could not reach my apartment, and Claudia Perez did nothing to provide assistance or even offer something as basic as water. Shockingly, she responded with hostility, throwing a rock at me and exacerbating the conflict by involving her husband in an attempt to intimidate my family.
The neighborhood deserves better leadership—one that will not only address emergencies but also respect every community member, regardless of age or status. It's crucial to have a leader who initiates programs for the youth, respects the elderly, and fosters an inclusive environment rather than sowing discord.
Moreover, there is verifiable evidence available, as NYCHA supervisors were present, and surveillance cameras captured these incidents. This evidence further substantiates the pressing need for Claudia Perez's removal from her position.
I urge all residents and stakeholders in New York City to support this petition to demand the removal of Claudia Perez as president of the tenant association for Washington houses. Also the removal of her husband Alberto Perez.Let's ensure our community is led by someone who genuinely cares and acts for the well-being of all residents. Sign this petition to advocate for change and better community leadership that prioritizes compassion, fairness, and effective service for everyone.
