The Issue

Brady Tkachuk has repeatedly expressed disdain towards Canada, the very nation that the Ottawa Senators represent. As a lifelong fan of the Ottawa Senators, it troubles me that someone who holds such negative views about our country is leading our team as captain. During the Men's Hockey Gold Game celebration at the Olympics, Tkachuk was captured on video saying "close the northern border," clearly indicating his animosity towards Canada. He has also been heard specifically saying he hates Canada.

As the captain of the Ottawa Senators, Tkachuk is not just a player; he is the face of our team, our city, and to some extent, our nation. The role of a captain should be held by someone who respects and appreciates the fabric of the country they represent. It is essential to have a leader who embodies the values and pride of Canada. The captain of the Senators should uplift the morale of the team and its fans, representing not only the team but also its home, Canada, with dignity and honour.

Many fans believe that Tkachuk’s comments are unacceptable and undermine the spirit of the sport and national pride. Many fans have posted online that they will not be attending any more Sens games until he’s gone. Hockey is important to all Canadians. It is imperative that the individual leading the NHL team in our capital is respectful and proud of being part of this great nation.

Therefore, I urge the Ottawa Senators management and the NHL to reconsider Brady Tkachuk's role as captain. The position should be entrusted to someone who has a deep appreciation for Canada, who can be a true leader on and off the ice, and who aligns with the values and pride of Canadian hockey fans.

Join me in calling for this necessary change. Sign this petition to demand the removal of Brady Tkachuk as captain of the Ottawa Senators and bring the team the leadership it deserves.
