Remove bike lanes on Lisbon St, San Diego, CA

The Issue

Jamacha Neighborhood

Living on Lisbon Street in San Diego, CA has its own set of challenges and joys, but the recent installation of bike lanes has tipped the balance towards more frustration and less ease of living. As residents, we have witnessed and experienced the adverse effects of these bike lanes firsthand. The street has become narrower, and parked cars are often at risk, sometimes even getting crashed into due to the reduced space. This change has undeniably lowered the quality of life for many of us who reside on or near Lisbon Street.

For those unfamiliar with the area, the Skyline-Paradise Hills Community Plan had a vision for Lisbon Street that included widening it to 64 feet. The recent changes, however, stand in contradiction to this plan. Not only were the bike lanes installed in a location that differs from what the plan originally outlined, but their presence has also meant fewer parking spots, making daily life more of a struggle for residents.

The Jamacha Neighborhood Council has voiced concerns and is advocating for the removal of these rarely used bike lanes. This perspective is not born out of opposition to bicycles or sustainable travel; rather, it is rooted in a desire to align infrastructural changes with the community's established plans and to ensure that residents aren't unfairly burdened by new developments.

The street sweepers can not clean tje bike lanes due to the bollards. In fact the street sweeper vehicles sweep some of the dirt from the road into the sandy bike lanes, which cannot be cleaned.

Statistics from several neighborhoods with similar issues suggest that misaligned bike lane installations can lead to increased local traffic incidents and general dissatisfaction among residents. It's crucial for city planners to reevaluate this decision, using community insights and examining the negative impacts accurately.

By signing this petition, you support the call to remove the bike lanes on Lisbon Street and advocate for urban development that respects community plans and enhances rather than diminishes resident quality of life. Let's work together for a solution that accommodates all forms of transport, respects our community’s needs, and maintains the safety and satisfaction of Lisbon Street residents. Please sign and support our cause.
