Remove Andrew Jackson Signage from Susan Davis Post Office

Remove Andrew Jackson Signage from Susan Davis Post Office
The Issue
- Not to be confused with Rename the Andrew Jackson Post Office in San Diego, the "successful" petition started in June 2020 that resulted in the passage of federal legislation H.R. 9308 renaming the Andrew Jackson Post Office in San Diego and the placement of the plaque (pictured below) in the lobby of the newly named Susan A. Davis Post Office. This is a new petition (July 2023) to remove the signage (pictured above) and to update the USPS website to reflect these already official changes. And now on to the petition:
WHEREAS, Pub. L. 117-314 states: “Any reference in a law, map, regulation, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 6401 El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego, California, shall be deemed to be a reference to the ‘‘Susan A. Davis Post Office’. Approved December 27, 2022.”
WHEREAS, large letters stating "United States Post Office, Andrew Jackson Station, San Diego, California 92115” remain on the front of the Post Office located at 6401 El Cajon Boulevard, and Susan Davis herself has publicly said that removing them is "problematic" and "confusing."[i]
WHEREAS, more than seven months after the passage of the Pub. L. 117-314, the USPS website still refers to the facility as "ANDREW JACKSON — Post Office™".
WHEREAS, a ‘document’ is defined as: “Something tangible on which words, symbols, or marks are recorded.”[ii]
WHEREAS, the Post Office building is something tangible. USPS.com is tangible. The words “Andrew Jackson Station” are words. A station is a type of facility, and this phrase refers to something other than the “Susan A. Davis Post Office.”
THEREFORE, we the People of the United States, the state of California, the city of San Diego, and/or the neighborhood of Rolando, do hereby petition members of the federal government in the House, Senate, the Postmaster General, and the Executive Branch to redress this grievance by updating the website and physically removing the signage referring to, honoring and glorifying Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States, enslaver of souls, author of the Indian Removal Act and perpetrator of genocide.
Leaving it up is an unambiguous violation of federal Public Law 117-134. There is no need to enact a new public law. Tear it down now.
This is the only sign that belongs on the facility.
[i] Further: “No congressional appropriation has been made to replace the lettering, and according to Davis, such an appropriation is problematic because such legislation would have to incorporate not only this post office branch but other renamed post office branches throughout the nation.” (San Diego Jewish World, July 7, 2023).
