Recommendation for abusive plastic: Wittenberg's "Judensau" should be removed
Experts recommend removing the abusive plastic on the Wittenberg town church as quickly as possible. In the future, it should rather be shown in an "adequately contextualizing frame" near the church.
The anti-Jewish abusive plastic on the Wittenberg town church is to be removed.
The expert advisory board, which was set up by the parish church council two years ago, recommended on Tuesday that the relief be "accepted and moved" as quickly as possible.
The "Judensau" has been part of the church facade since the 13th century.
Even before reunification, the parish distanced itself from the anti-Jewish work with an inscription on the street.
There has also been an explanatory information board for years.

Nevertheless, a removal of the relief has long been demanded.
In June, the Federal Court of Justice made it clear that there is no legal entitlement to this.
However, the expert panel now advises removing the “current visibility” from the “Judensau” and presenting it in the future in an “adequate contextualizing frame” near the church.
The chairman of the Evangelical Academy, Christoph Meier, said that one was faced with the dilemma of "showing something that one no longer wanted to look at".
The recommendation of the Expert Council is expected to be implemented, but not this year, as the protection of monuments must also be involved.
As a mother church of the Reformation, the Wittenberg town church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
