Latest news - I am writing on behalf of Michael Düllman, the German Jewish man who has brought legal proceedings to relocate the Wittenberg Judensau, the antisemitic sculpture on the wall of Martin Luther's home church in Wittenberg, Germany.
After three unsuccessful court cases in the German courts the church advisory council has now nevertheless recommended relocation of the sculpture from the outside wall of the church to a study-centre area inside the church. We hope this will happen shortly. See here for the latest update on the case (use Google translate if necessary).
However, Michael Dullmann has not been able to cover the costs of legal fees, court appearances and the official costs for bringing the case to three rounds of hearings. Mr Dullmann is a pensioner of very limited means, and does not have funds to cover the outstanding legal fees of the church's lawyers, which amount to €6,800 ($6,995).
His own lawyer, Hubertus Benecke, has not yet submitted an account of the fees for his and his law firm's fees, which I would estimate to be substantial.
Is there any way you can help in this matter? I attach details of the petition and media coverage of this issue, which I think is vital for the way Jewish people see Christians in German dealing with anti-Judaism and antisemitism. I have written a book on the subject which I will be happy to send you, called "Luther and the Jews: Putting Right the Lies."
Your support and prayers are much appreciated!
