Release Dr Aafia Siddiqui from Texas prison ‘hell’. False charges, conviction & torture!
The Issue
Dr Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani National with a Doctorate from prestigious Brandeis University, USA, is currently serving an 86-year prison sentence in the US on false charges.
Dr Siddiqui was falsely convicted in 2010 of attempting to shoot U.S. military personnel in Afghanistan in 2008.
She is serving this unjust 86-year sentence in torturous conditions at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell in Fort-Worth, Texas, United States, a notorious high security medical prison known for its compulsive abuse of human rights, torture and unethical practices.
Dr Siddiqui and her family have always maintained her innocence, the circumstances around her arrest in Afghanistan are dubious, and charges brought against her were not based on any forensic evidence; none of the alleged victims were shot or harmed by Dr Siddiqui in any way, there was no gunshot residue, no holes on the walls, nor shelling found in the room.
Moreover, her trial in the US was a farcical mockery!
Witness statements from her US military accusers were the only evidence used to convict Dr Siddiqui, she was unjustly convicted, the initial trial judge was replaced mid-trial by a judge biased towards the prosecution, this judge disregarded her impaired mental and physical health during trial, refused her a lawyer of her choice, and on occasions she was brought into court medically unfit to stand trial, including bleeding from her face, recently broken teeth and stumbling, following the judge’s ‘use force’ order.
So, how did Dr Siddiqui end up in prison? Let’s look at what happened leading up to her arrest.
Dr Siddiqui was a brilliant student in Pakistan, she received offers to study at top Ivy league universities in the US in the 90’s, and travelled there to study human Biology at MIT, then attended Brandeis university to do her Masters and PHD in Cognitive Neuroscience, her final thesis focussed on teaching children to learn effectively using imitation.
Dr Siddiqui, married and became a mother whilst in the US.
In March 2003 Dr Siddiqui divorced her husband and went to visit her family in Pakistan - Her husband was abusive throughout their marriage.
Dr Siddiqui stayed with her family in Lahore, Pakistan, at the end of her stay she decided to visit a relative in Islamabad, Pakistan with her 3 children, enroute to see her relative she and her children were kidnapped in Pakistan. Her two older children were later recovered and taken in by her older sister, the fate of her 1 year old baby son Sulaiman is still unknown.
Dr Siddiqui disappeared into thin air, she was not seen nor heard from for over 5 years, suddenly re-appearing on the streets of Ghazni, Afghanistan in 2008, she was with her older son, weak, delirious and unable to walk or communicate coherently, a short while later she collapsed.
Dr Siddiqui has now told her lawyer, she was kidnapped in 2003 and held in US-run prison Baghram in Afghanistan for the 5 years she was missing, her children were separated from her, she was tortured in Baghram, other prisoners report hearing a woman in Baghram during this period, then one day she was transported to Ghazni and dropped off by military personnel with instructions to head towards a particular location in that area.
Afghani security officers in the area said they were instructed by seniors to shoot her on sight, but they were stopped by an onlooker who’d seen her pacing weakly, she was taken into a nearby office by the security officers to be interrogated, a bag she was given by her captors before she was released was said to contain handwritten notes of plans against the US; Dr Siddiqui denies these notes belong to her.
Dr Siddiqui is a slight woman at 5ft, she was malnourished and in a poor mental/physical state at the time of her arrest.
The alleged incident that led to her arrest is her supposedly hiding behind a curtain in the interrogation room, and when American personnel arrived she jumped out and stole one of their guns to shoot them.
The only person who sustained a gunshot that day was Dr Siddiqui, she was shot in the stomach by one of the American personnels present.
After she was shot she was attended to by military medical staff, then in a state of panic flown to the United States whilst undergoing treatment for her wound in the aircraft.
Dr Siddiqui was placed in prison when they landed, to await trial in the US.
She is a gifted woman who has deep compassion for humans and animals alike, she wanted to help the needy and provide opportunities to those unable to access a good education, all her life.
Now, she suffers from severe PTSD, memory-loss and debilitating fear.
Dr Siddiqui has also sustained numerous physical injuries, burns, broken teeth, cuts to her face and fractured bones.
She has been denied medical treatment, denied access to an impartial attorney, denied a Muslim chaplain, she is a faithful woman, she had no access to visitors in person or indirectly via telephone until 2023, when attorney Clive SS could take her case on.
She has informed her lawyer of continuous sexual abuse by inmates and staff within the prisons.
This is one woman, compare the difference in her appearance in the photo, she has endured unimaginable horror no human should be subjected to.
Dr Siddiqui and her family have always maintained her innocence and deny all allegations against her, her sister Dr Fowzia has been fighting for justice for her for 21 years.
Please mobilise and speak up for Dr Aafia Siddiqui, she needs to be released or extradited to Pakistan. She’s a Pakistani citizen, not a US citizen. Her trial took place In a Manhattan court in 2010 where she was convicted for an alleged crime that took place in Afghanistan, whilst she a Pakistani citizen.
Dr Siddiqui was a brilliant student, her tutor at MIT, Dr Noam Chomsky, described her as ‘an institute in herself’, that she would bring change wherever she went.
We cannot allow such human rights abuses to continue before our eyes.
