Government of Pakistan

The Government of Pakistan operates on the principles of a federal parliamentary system, in which the President of Pakistan serves as the ceremonial head of state while the Prime Minister is the executive head. The bicameral parliament is composed of the Senate (upper house) and the National Assembly (lower house), giving room for both provincial and federal representation. Supreme judicial authority is vested in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The government is structured according to the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which was adopted in 1973, ensuring democracy, federalism, and provincial autonomy. It also practices the principles of Islamic Sharia law. The nation is subdivided into four provinces, one federal capital territory, and several tribal regions.
