Reject the Proposed Airport Construction in Arklow, Co Wicklow

The Issue

I am a resident of Arklow town and deeply concerned about the proposed 800-1000 acres airport construction within 1km of our peaceful community. The beauty of our town, particularly the scenic quarry route that many of us enjoy walking along, is under threat. This project will not only destroy our tranquil environment but also pose significant environmental risks.

Our Green Party TD for Wicklow, Steven Matthews, was shocked by this proposal and initially thought it was an April Fool's joke. But this is no laughing matter - it's a serious issue that will affect all residents in Arklow.

The construction of an airport so close to residential areas can lead to increased noise pollution which has been linked to health issues such as stress-related illnesses and cardiovascular disease (World Health Organization). Moreover, airports are major contributors to air pollution which can exacerbate respiratory conditions and contribute to climate change (Environmental Protection Agency).

Instead of investing in disruptive projects like this one, we believe funding should be allocated towards improving infrastructure and public transport systems. This would make travel to Dublin Airport easier without causing harm to our community or environment.

We urge you - local authorities and decision-makers - not just consider the economic benefits but also take into account the potential environmental damage and disruption caused by such projects on small communities like ours.
