Reject The Planning Application For Housing Development on Bideford Close, Wigston

The Issue

We the undersigned petition the Oadby and Wigston Borough Council to Refuse/Reject, in the strongest possible terms, the planning application 22/00320/FUL for the development of Bideford Close, Wigston with the proposed building of 15 new homes on 'Informal Open Space' designated land.

The proposed development as outlined in the planning application 22/00320/FUL will:

  • Result in the loss of a valued green space utilised by local residents.
  • Result in the loss of 'Informal Open Space' which the Council itself states is severely lacking in the Borough.
  • Result in the loss of valuable habitat for local wildlife in a time when improving biodiversity and access to it is more important than ever.
  • Damage the existing character of the area.
  • De-value the existing residential properties.
  • Be detrimental to the health and well-being of local residents and school users.
  • Degrade the character of and approach to the Primary School for residents, parents and children enrolled at the school.
  • Increase traffic, footfall, pollution and congestion in a part of the Borough that has recently been subjected to a vast programme of housing development (and where improvements to local amenities have not been made and biodiversity targets not met).

This list is in no way exhaustive but represents some key concerns of local residents.
