Reinstate the Farmers Market at St. Dominic’s Hospital

The Issue

I am writing as someone deeply touched by the crucial role that St. Dominic’s Hospital plays in our community. Because those within hospital walls are engaged in a tireless struggle for health - either as patients or care providers - it became a beacon of hope when a farmer's market was introduced. It provided fresh, nutritious food, directly within reach, furthering faith and confidence in the path of recovery.

With health as our common goal, the community was shocked when the farmer's market was discontinued. The lack of accessibility to readily available fresh produce in a setting where health is paramount is a striking contradiction.

Previously, St. Dominic's Hospital Farmers Market not only made fresh produce accessible but also promoted healthy eating and healthier lifestyle choices. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can help prevent chronic illnesses such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer. Despite these proven benefits, our hospital no longer offers this critical service.

It's time we voice our concern to bring back the farmer's market and restore this vital health resource that forms an integral part of the hospital's services. With Mississippi having one of the highest rates of chronic diseases in the USA, it is more important than ever that institutions like St. Dominic’s Hospital lead by example. Please sign this petition to renew the St. Dominic’s Hospital farmer's market and foster a healthier Mississippi.
