The residents of Minchinbury are deeply concerned about the continuous heavy truck traffic on Archbold Road, which has disrupted our daily lives and endangered our community's safety. But now, the escalating truck movements have transformed our serene locality into a noisy, more hazardous environment.

Previously, Archbold Road had a 3-tonne load limit, which effectively curtailed the number of large trucks passing through Minchinbury. This restriction was critical for maintaining our suburb’s tranquil atmosphere. The removal of this limit has led to a significant increase in truck traffic, causing not only noise pollution but also contributing to wear and tear on our roads, increased air pollution, and a compromised safety for local residents using the road and turning out of Robison st.

Minchinbury is predominantly a residential area. Our infrastructure is not designed to handle the daily burden imposed by heavy trucks. The increase in truck movements has resulted in noise pollution, danger to locals caused by constant speeding and negligent driving. 

Research has demonstrated the adverse effects of truck traffic on residential areas. Excessive noise from trucks can cause stress, disrupt sleep, and lead to other health problems. Moreover, increased pollution due to diesel exhaust is a well-known contributor to respiratory issues and environmental degradation. According to a study by the Australian Department of Transport, communities with high levels of truck traffic are significantly more likely to report poorer health outcomes compared to those shielded from such disturbances.

We call on Blacktown Local council to take  action. Reinstate the 3-tonne load limit on Archbold Road to reduce the influx of heavy trucks. We also urge stronger enforcement of these regulations to ensure compliance by all vehicles. The restoration of these measures will safeguard our streets, protect our families’ health and uphold the quality of life we cherish in our community.
