Reinstate Shaykh Soufiane Taydi at ADAMS Fairfax — Our Community Will Not Stay Silent
The Issue
To the Board of Trustees of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS),
We, the undersigned members, families, and friends of the ADAMS Fairfax Community, are writing with one urgent request. We ask you to reinstate our imam, Soufiane Taydi, immediately.
Imam Soufiane has served our masjid in Fairfax for more than three years, and he has spent over a decade of his life serving Muslim communities as an imam. He leads all five daily prayers and gives countless hours to our youth programs. He teaches the Qur'an to anyone who wants to learn, no matter their age. On his own time and free of charge, he has sat with our elders to teach them the Qur'an. Anyone who has seen him with the young people here understands how much they love him. He makes du'a for us and stands with our families during their hardest moments, and for many in this community he is one of the most trusted figures they have ever known.
Walk into our masjid without him and you will feel what we have lost. Without Imam Soufiane, the building is just walls. A masjid is its people and the leader who holds them together, and you have taken ours.
Here is what every member of this community needs to know: his removal had nothing to do with his work or his conduct as our imam. He has excelled at the job itself, from leading our prayers to teaching the Qur'an to caring for our community. We believe a private issue was brought into his professional life and used as the reason to let him go, and we reject that reason completely. A man who has given more than a decade to this ummah deserves far better, and so does the community that depends on him and loves him.
The board made this decision with no transparency and no real consultation, and without the fair process that our imam and our community deserves. The community was never heard. We are demanding to be heard now.
We are asking the Board of ADAMS to do three things:
1) Reinstate Imam Soufiane Taydi as imam of ADAMS Center Fairfax, effective immediately.
2) Hold an open community meeting so the congregation can be heard before any decision is made about our spiritual leadership.
3) Commit to a fair process for handling concerns about an imam, one that judges him on his service and his conduct in the role and respects the trust of this community.
Every name below is a name of the community voicing the same demand: we want our imam back. Our patience should not be read as agreement. We care deeply about this community, and we will not let this go quietly.
Please sign this, share it with every brother and sister you know, and help us bring Imam Soufiane back where he belongs.
From the congregation and friends of ADAMS Center Fairfax
