Reinstate RCS Messaging for Philippine's Globe Telecom

Reinstate RCS Messaging for Philippine's Globe Telecom
The Issue
As an avid fan of technology and a strong believer in the transformative power of Rich Communication Services (RCS), I notice the obstacles it faces in the Philippines. Recently, Globe Telecom, a significant local provider, disabled RCS under the guise of combating spam. However, rather than solving a problem, this move has limited the technological and communication potential that RCS brings to the users.
Disabled under the guise of "combating spam messages", it doesn't make any sense for Globe Telecom to discourage its subscribers from using RCS and iMessage since most spam messages are sent from SMS, not RCS. As news are coming out that there is a proliferation of illegal cellular towers to send spam and phishing SMS, it seems counterproductive to block the internet-based RCS. Google Messages by the way, has a mechanism to block spam RCS and is really effective. Another inconsistency with Globe Telecom's decision is that it still allows iMessage to be activated on iPhones. If you will check with Globe Telecom's competitors such as Smart Telecommunications and even DITO, they still allow RCS to be activated.
RCS has been celebrated across international technology stands as the future of mobile communication. According to numerous tech analysts, it is set to surpass the limitations of traditional SMS and MMS as it provides better image quality, read receipts, and seamless group messaging benefits, among others.
RCS, with its innovative framework, can host a profound influence on the way we communicate. Therefore, disabling it over concerns of combating spam seems a premature decision. There is an urgent need to establish robust spam detection and blocking mechanisms, rather than entirely disabling a substantially beneficial service.
In the current digital age, limiting communication potential is not an acceptable solution. It is time for Globe Telecom's management to reconsider their decision and find an alternative solution to tackle spam efficiently.
Hence, let's collectively raise our voices to expose this impediment and advocate for the reinstatement of RCS Messaging in Philippines' Globe Telecom. This is a call for change — a change that supports technological advancement. Sign this petition today.
