Reinstate r/MJInnocent and Demand Fair, Unbiased Moderation on Reddit
The issue

8th June 2026 Final update on our Petition to Reddit, requesting they reinstate our MJ Innocent sub (group) on their platform:
Kia ora (hello) Moonwalkers,
We want to thank everyone who has signed and shared our petition. 😊
We also want to clarify that this petition is purely about raising awareness and advocating for justice.
We do not seek any donations or financial contributions. Your time, your signature, and your continued support are all that we ask.
Since we started this petition on the 21st January 2025, a lot has happened.
Since Reddit has failed to reinstate r/MJInnocent and continues to ignore our concerns, we have moved forward with creating a new MJInnocent subreddit. MJ Innocent Facts (r/MJInnocentFacts).
https://www.reddit.com/r/MJInnocentFacts/
We will leave the petition up, as this captures lots of relevant information, which shines a light on the on the clear bias on Reddit again Michael Jacson and his supporting community.
We ask Reddit Admin to provide a legitimate reason for:
1. The removal of r/MJInnocent.
2. The removal of original mods from r/MichaelJackson, leaving the sub initially inactive and now not adequately moderated.
3. The unfair banning of other subs, and community members such as myself without warnings.
This issue is bigger than the reinstatement of the MJInnocent subreddit or the reinstatement of community accounts. It’s about setting a precedent for all communities on Reddit. Today it’s Michael Jackson’s supporters; tomorrow, it could be any other group facing the same treatment.
We urge Reddit admins to respond to the numerous feedback forms and emails submitted by our community.
Our Final Demands:
We urge Reddit's administrators to:
1. Reinstate r/MJIlnnocent and other unfairly removed subreddits.
2. Reinstate the original moderators of the r/MichaelJackson sub and Reddit accounts of community members who were unjustly banned including myself JediRenee.
3. Implement fair, neutral, and unbiased moderation practices.
4. Ensure all communities, regardless of size or opinion, are treated equally without censorship.
5. Transparency in Bans: Reddit must implement a clear appeal process and disclose how bans are enforced.
For anyone wanting more understanding of the situation around the Michael Jackson community on Reddit that our petition is about, here is some background info to recap:
Since 2017 I have been an active member of social network platform Reddit. https://www.reddit.com
My username was JediRenee.
Reddit is made up of subreddits (subs) or groups.
Subs are like Facebook groups. Each sub/group has its own moderators (mod) that get to make their own rules, as long as they follow Reddit's over all guidelines/code of conduct.
https://redditinc.com/policies/reddit-rules
https://redditinc.com/policies/moderator-code-of-conduct
This is overseen by Reddit administrators (admin).
Reddit has proven itself as a platform to be in general anti Michael Jackson (MJ). Lots of negative talk about allegations, racism, disrespectful all round on many subs.
There are some dedicated subs dedicated to MJ that are meant to be safe spaces for the supporters of MJ (MJ community).
Since 2017 under the username JediRenee l have been an active member of the MJ community on reddit and many other platforms. I've also moderated several MJ-related groups and subs.
Around Christmas 2024, I was temporarily banned for seven days without any prior warning after I reported harmful content in a subreddit called LeavingNeverlandHBO.
https://www.reddit.com/r/LeavingNeverlandHBO/
^ This group is notorious, it is responsible for most of the hate directed towards MJ on reddit. They spread lies around false allegations and propaganda that is anti MJ. They claim to be supportive of abuse victims, but in reality are fixated on trying to tear down MJ, even years after his passing (RIP). Members of this group also post on other subs in the comments spreading false, harmful info, and on other platforms online.
Members of this group falsely claimed I was abusing the reporting tool in reddit (which I wasn’t). Despite my attempts to appeal the temporary ban, it was denied.
Then, things escalated. I was permanently banned for the same reason (alleged abuse of Reddit’s reporting tool) even though I hadn’t reported anything new since my initial temporary ban. I appealed multiple times but received no response from Reddit.
Around the same time, the MJ Innocent sub (r/MJInnocent) was banned without explanation or warning. The main mod of many MJ subs, and other community members started calling out Reddit, but there was no accountability. At that point, I created a new account (Kia-ora-moonwalker) and refrained from reporting anything to avoid further issues.
I tried reaching out to Reddit multiple times via email and their online help system but received no replies.
https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
In response, I started this petition, which I shared across various platforms, including Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, X, and Bluesky, tagging Reddit admins to raise awareness and to call out reddit admins.
https://www.change.org/MJInnocentreinstateonreddit
Reddit's response? Without any notice, they removed the mods of the main MJ sub (r/MichaelJackson) which had approximately 56.9k members at the time, effectively leaving the community inactive.
Please note there is no easy way of seeing how many members a sub has now, as reddit has changed their settings, instead they list the number of weekly visitors and contributors.
Currently for the main MJ sub, it has 809K Weekly visitors 7.8K Weekly contributions.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MichaelJackson/new/
This sub also had a wide network of sister subs for different aspects of the mj fandom, a directory of different topics (fanart, shortfilms, the upcoming biopic and many others).
It’s clear: Reddit is actively trying to erase Michael Jackson supporters from the platform.
When the mods of the main mj sub were removed I increased my efforts to call out Reddit admins.
Soon after, Reddit permanently banned our previous main MJ main sub mods accounts and removed moderation from many MJ sister subs, leaving them inactive.
Shortly after that, my Kia-ora-moonwalker account was banned with no explanation, accusing me of "Breaking Reddit" (which I’m still unclear about after sending numerous reports and emails).
They also removed posts where I had tagged Reddit admins, claiming I was sharing private information. Reddit usernames are public, and I never received any clarification or response when I tried to explain this.
I created other accounts to try to interact, but they were all were removed within days by reddit admin. I can still access Reddit but cannot interact.
Reddit admins posted in the main MJ subreddit asking for volunteers to help moderate.
Reddit admins then selected new moderators for the r/MichaelJackson sub, but the process was flawed, and the new mods are struggling to maintain a safe and welcoming space.
Trolls and haters have invaded the sub, and the new mods are banning long-time members for interacting with previous moderators and members (including interactions outside of reddit on other platforms only).
The new mods are also banning members who are calling out mods lack of capabilities to maintain the mj sub, and are arguing about this all repeatedly in the main mj subs group chat.
Further to this, the new mods have removed all but 2 of the sister subs from the main mj subs directory and banned any talk of the removed sister subs.
This only highlights the underlying bias that Reddit allows certain groups, like LeavingNeverlandHBO, to continue while penalizing our pro-MJ community. It feels like Reddit doesn't want to engage with us fairly.
LeavingNeverlandHBO consitunes to exist, despite the fact that the documentary is no longer airing on HBO after a lawsuit settlement with Michael Jackson’s estate. The subreddit’s outdated name remains, further emphasizing this inconsistency.
Banned or removed subreddits:
r/MJInnocent
r/MichaelJacksonLegacy
r/MichaelJackson\_Legacy
r/MichaelJacksonLegacy\_
r/MJ\_KingOfStyle
r/DefendingMJ
r/IsMJAliveToday
r/MJs\_MatureEra
r/RightingHIStory
r/TodayAGuilterSaid
r/MichaelJacksonForever
(and likely more)
Even more concerning: Reddit is approving subreddits through the RedditRequest system, only to remove the moderators days later and mark the community as ineligible. This has happened to:
r/MichaelJacksonTheMan
r/SkeevingSlumberland
r/MJDiscussions
r/MichaelTheBiopic
r/MichaelTheAlbum
Thank you once again for standing with us. Let's keep pushing for what’s right! 🌻✌️

As passionate supporters of Michael Jackson and firm believers in his innocence, it deeply disturbs us to witness the evident bias practiced by Reddit administrators.
The recent removal of critical community spaces like r/MJInnocent subreddit (group on reddit) is a glaring example of an unfair ban and biased moderation, seemingly favoring an anti-Michael Jackson narrative.
At the same time, subreddits such as r/LeavingNeverlandHBO continue to exist unhindered, fostering an atmosphere of unbalance and discrimination.
This is not just about the reinstatement of r/MJInnocent but about setting a precedent for all communities on Reddit. Today, it's Michael Jackson's supporting community; tomorrow, it could be any other group experiencing a similar fate.
A call for better adherence to guidelines is what we request, with a fair, neutral and unbiased administration that values all voices, be they majority or minority.
The essence of Reddit lies in its diverse and vibrant communities, which are currently at risk due to an evident bias favoring one narrative over another.
We, the supporters and believers of Michael Jackson's innocence, demand our voices to be heard.
Please, sign this petition and let us call for fairness and unbiased administration on Reddit for all communities, not just ours.
Let us work together to get r/MJInnocent reinstated and uphold the spirit of equality and open discussions Reddit was built upon.
We will continue to post updates here and across social media.
A huge thank you to everyone who has signed and shared this petition so far. Please continue to spread the word across all platforms—every signature counts!
