Kia ora (hello) Moonwalkers,
We are still pushing forward in our fight to hold Reddit admins accountable for the unfair bias, prejudice, and racism directed at Michael Jackson and our community.
Our voices are loud, and we continue to call for action on multiple fronts.
We urge Reddit admins to respond to the numerous feedback forms submitted by our community, asking for the reinstatement of:
- r/MJInnocent sub
- The original moderators of the r/MichaelJackson sub
- Reddit accounts of community members who were unjustly banned.
Recently, Reddit admins selected 8 new moderators for the r/MichaelJackson sub. However, just after the announcement, 1 was quietly removed without any explanation, leaving only 7.
More troubling is that 2 of the new moderators have been involved in online disputes, arguing with community members in group chats and sending unwanted private messages.
Even worse, these moderators have been banning long-time members of the sub for the sole reason that they have continued to interact with previous moderators on other platforms.
We also want to bring attention to the fact that these new moderators have been publicly badmouthing the previous ones, undermining their work and contributing to further division within the community.
This behavior is not only unprofessional but has only worsened an already difficult situation.
One of the new moderators is a former mod who was removed years ago due to inactivity, which raises concerns about their ability to be a productive part of the moderation team.
The new moderators are struggling to maintain the same level of moderation that was previously provided by the original, unfairly removed mods. As a result, trolls and haters have invaded what was once a safe and welcoming space.
What’s even more concerning is the process by which Reddit admins selected these new moderators.
In other subreddits, mods are chosen based on community input, such as upvotes or support from active members. However, in r/MichaelJackson, Reddit admins selected inactive users or people who had never posted in the subreddit.
This lack of transparency in the selection process is raising significant concerns among the community.
It’s clear that Reddit’s approach to moderator selection in r/MichaelJackson has been flawed and does not reflect the needs or the will of the community.
We are advocating for active, experienced moderators who can foster a fair, supportive space for all members.
