Reinstate Paul Fox as a British Wheel of Yoga Member

Reinstate Paul Fox as a British Wheel of Yoga Member
The Issue
Paul is a senior yoga teacher and a person of honesty and integrity who served the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) in various volunteer roles for over 20 years, including his period as Chair between 2016 and 2018 when he pioneered an agenda of diversity, inclusion, and standards. He was subjected to a 4-and-a-half year complaints process, which resulted in him being expelled from BWY. We believe he should be reinstated as a member of BWY.
Among his achievements as Chair of BWY, Paul signed a pioneering agreement with the NHS for BWY to hold funds on behalf of the Yoga In Healthcare Alliance (YIHA) charity to develop the Yoga4Health and Yoga4NHS staff wellbeing protocols that are now delivered across the UK and abroad by a network of 500 teachers. The British Wheel of Yoga received complaints about Paul in 2018 and proceeded to take 4-and-a-half years to investigate them – even though their complaints policy says most complaints will be resolved within 28 days. Paul has been put through the wringer for over 4 years by this unfair treatment, which no volunteer with BWY should ever have to endure.
BWY should reinstate Paul Fox because:
- BWY took too long over the investigation, ran a deeply flawed process, and made mistakes trying to determine what had happened five years earlier.
- In May 2021, Paul was officially informed by the ruling National Executive Committee that the complaints against him had been “concluded and not upheld”.
- The decision to secretly reinvestigate Paul in 2022 was unfair and broke the terms of BWY’s own Complaints Policy, which does not allow the reopening of closed complaints.
- An independent review by a well-known charity support organisation in 2023 found that BWY has no reasonable grounds on which to expel Paul and concluded that he had been unfairly treated.
