Reinstate Park Connections Shuttle for Royal National Park
The issue
For years, the Park Connections shuttle bus was a lifeline for those of us who rely on public transportation to reach the stunning Royal National Park, nestled in the Sutherland Shire of New South Wales. This shuttle, which provided much-needed access to areas such as Audley, Bundeena, Wattamolla, Garie Beach, and both Otford North and South access points of The Coast Track, was more than just a mode of transport—it was our ticket to experiencing the park's natural beauty and recreational opportunities.
Unfortunately, due to severe road damage caused by a storm and a landslide in 2022, Garie Road was closed, and with it, the Park Connections shuttle service was halted. While road repairs have been completed and Garie Road finally reopened in September 2025, the shuttle service has yet to resume.
This has left many of us who don't have the luxury of a personal vehicle struggling to access these beautiful, yet remote, locations within the park. The absence of this service limits our ability to enjoy nature, engage in outdoor activities, and access essential areas of the park, affecting not only residents but also visitors seeking a sustainable way to explore these protected landscapes.
Royal National Park attracts over 6 million visitors annually, with a significant percentage relying on public transport options. By reinstating the Park Connections shuttle, we can provide an environmentally friendly travel option, reduce the park's carbon footprint, and continue to promote sustainable tourism practices.
I urge Mark Coure, my local Member of Parliament to advocate on the behalf of our communities, and for the relevant transport authorities to prioritize the restoration of the Park Connections shuttle service. Doing so not only supports environmental sustainability but also fosters community well-being, ensuring that all can enjoy the park, regardless of their personal transport options.
Let us work together to make Royal National Park accessible to everyone. Please sign this petition to bring back the Park Connections shuttle and enhance public access to this incredible natural resource.
