Reinstate NC House Bill 625 for Criminal Reform in North Carolina

The Issue

North Carolina prisons are in CRISIS and it is time for us to take a stand! Incarceration is supposed to be about REHABILITATION. Mandatory minimum sentences disproportionately affect marginalized communities and perpetuate inequality. Unfair sentencing is a pressing issue that highlights the disparities in the legal system, where individuals are often subjected to harsh and unjust punishments based on factors such as race, socioeconomic status, or bias. Reforming sentencing guidelines, addressing mandatory minimums, and fighting against systemic racism in criminal justice is long overdue.

North Carolina House Bill 625 also known as the criminal justice reduction reform bill, will give those individuals deserving of a second chance just that. Under this bill non-violent offenders can apply for a sentence reduction if they have served at least 5 years of their sentence. They would become eligible to file an MAR or Motion for appropriate Relief. The court would then be responsible for considering whether the interests of justice warranted a sentence modification.
Understandably, reform doesn't merely mean early release. It involves supporting individuals in their journey to becoming productive members of society, contributing positively to their communities. The possibility of a second chance fosters hope and encourages inmates towards rehabilitation.

We call upon lawmakers to review these harsh sentencing policies, particularly those affecting nonviolent offenders. We ask them to consider reform measures that ensure fairness in our justice system while still holding individuals accountable for their actions. Let's work together towards a more understanding, compassionate, and rehabilitative justice system that gives deserving individuals a chance to turn their lives around and contribute positively to society.

By supporting this petition, you can contribute to the movement for criminal justice reform and help ensure that sentences are proportionate and equitable. Your involvement can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by unjust sentencing practices and amplify the voices of those individuals directly affected. Together we can advocate for a more just legal system that promotes rehabilitation and second chances for all deserving individuals. Your support is pivotal in making this change possible.

Change starts with YOU! Don't just sit there and watch others make a difference, let YOUR voice be heard. Join the fight and help change the lives of individuals and families in NC. Let's take OUR power back!
