The Issue

After 5.5 years of dedicated content creation and with over 24,200 subscribers, my YouTube channel, 'Megan Ruth', was abruptly terminated. The reason cited was a 3-year-old link in my video description template, which inadvertently led, through several steps, to adult content. This issue was entirely unforeseen. As soon as I realized this oversight, I corrected it immediately and submitted an appeal. Despite my proactive measures and efforts to clarify the situation with YouTube support, my appeal was denied.

My channel's termination is not an isolated case. Numerous creators have faced similar situations where indirect links resulted in severe penalties. Yet, some of these creators have been fortunate to have their channels reinstated after appealing: @its_bunnii, @SlightSoundsASMR, and @nananightray. The inconsistency in handling such matters highlights a gap in YouTube's policy enforcement—one that I hope YouTube will address by reviewing my case impartially.

Adding to the confusion, I received a separate email from YouTube stating this was a 'first-time warning' — that my content had been removed but I could still upload, post, and live stream — which directly contradicts the original termination notice stating my channel was fully removed. When I asked YouTube support to clarify which reflected my account's actual status, I did not receive an explanation.

The loss of my channel has been devastating, financially and emotionally. Years of hard work vanished overnight because of an outdated link, initially harmless and unnoticed, now treated as a severe violation. This does not reflect repeated or intentional misconduct; it’s a straightforward oversight.

YouTube's policy of treating incidental links the same as severe or repeated violations is disproportionate, especially without prior notice or warning. Content creators like myself, largely unaware of such indirect connections in their descriptions, have seen their livelihoods decimated. We urge YouTube to reassess their policy, prioritizing transparency and fairness in enforcement.

I ask for your support in petitioning YouTube to reconsider and reinstate the 'Megan Ruth' YouTube channel. Many creators rely on this platform for their careers, and a single misunderstanding should not lead to such drastic consequences.

Please sign this petition to help restore not only my channel but to also support fair treatment for all creators who have inadvertently violated terms without malicious intent. Together, we can appeal for a more equitable solution that supports both content creators and platform integrity. Sign and share this petition today to help bring my channel back.
