Reinstate Long Term Lease on Larger Land Block for Hindu Cultural Centre

Reinstate Long Term Lease on Larger Land Block for Hindu Cultural Centre
The issue
The Hindu Cultural Centre was designed to be a place where the community could gather to celebrate various functions. To enable this, the community has been working over the past few years to construct the Centre on the land leased by the Gold Coast City Council to the Gold Coast Hindu Cultural Association (GCHCA), where the youth can learn about their rich heritage, and where everyone can gather to forge bonds that transcend cultural barriers. With unwavering faith in this commitment, the community has invested more than $4,000,000 into this project.
Recently, however, our faith was shaken by the Council's decision to reduce the land allocated for our Centre and reduce the length of lease. This decision not only undermines our investment, but also jeopardises the entire project, threatening the very foundation of our cultural vision. The reduced land area is insufficient for the Centre's intended facilities, which include event spaces, educational hubs, and areas for cultural festivities.
Such a decision does a disservice not only to the Hindu community, but also to the broader multicultural spirit of the Gold Coast. In a region that thrives on diversity and inclusive growth, curtailing such cultural landmarks is a step backward. The Centre would serve not only as a beacon for Hindus, but as a milestone in creating a cohesive and inclusive society for everyone on the Gold Coast.
We urge the Gold Coast City Council to reconsider their decision and fulfill their original commitment to GCHCA. By doing so, they will honor the trust and aspirations of so many dedicated to this cause. Together, we can maintain the vibrant tapestry of our diverse community and ensure that the Gold Coast continues to be a home where every culture is celebrated.
We call on all residents and those who stand for cultural unity and preservation to support this appeal. Sign this petition to protect and realise our vision for a flourishing Hindu Cultural Centre on the Gold Coast.
