As of October 2024, Harbour Air Seaplanes will discontinue its flights to and from Maple Bay, BC, leaving a significant gap in transportation options for residents, visitors, and businesses. We call for Harbour Air to reconsider this decision and reinstate this essential service.

Maple Bay, located on Vancouver Island, is a vibrant and growing community. The Harbour Air route provided quick, efficient access between Maple Bay and the mainland, serving as a crucial lifeline for those who relied on it for work, family visits, and important appointments. Its cancellation has left many without convenient travel options, and local businesses, especially those dependent on tourism, will feel the impact.

This decision comes on the heels of Harbour Air cancelling its Sechelt flights, while new services are being introduced to areas that already have flight options — such as Victoria to Salt Spring. We believe that smaller, underserved communities like Maple Bay deserve the same attention and access to transportation. We do not have alternative options, besides driving an hour to Victoria or Nanaimo.

Reinstating flights to Maple Bay would benefit not only the local economy but also the broader community, helping residents stay connected and making it easier for visitors to enjoy everything Maple Bay has to offer.
