Reinstate Fixed Route Buses and Improve Public Transportation in Montpelier

The Issue

I am a resident of Montpelier who, like many others, rely on public transportation for my daily needs. Over 25 years ago, I moved to this city and chose a home near a bus stop on a fixed route. This allowed me to commute to work, visit healthcare providers, and access other essentials without the need for personal transportation. However, the replacement of Hospital Hill and Circulator fixed route buses with MyRide by GMT has proven disastrous.

The new service is riddled with bugs and unreliability that have left many residents stranded or late for important appointments. The fear of being stranded by GMT is turning previously independent people into shut-ins forced to beg friends, neighbors, or even strangers in online forums for rides.

This situation not only impacts our freedom but also affects our quality of life. It's crucial that we address this issue promptly as it affects the most vulnerable among us - those who cannot drive due to age or disability - disproportionately.

We urge government and transit authorities to reinstate fixed route buses while also improving overall public transportation services. We believe that these changes will significantly enhance mobility within our city while ensuring no resident is left behind due to unreliable services.

Please sign this petition if you believe in better public transportation for all residents of Montpelier!
