Regulate Vehicle insurance pricing in Alberta

The Issue

To Danielle Smith and her office,

Hello, my name is Ronald Traverse. I am a native born Manitoban, but in April of 2025 I decided to move to Alberta for various reasons. The main one being this is where my wife is from.

I am shocked at the pricing of Alberta Insurance.

I am currently paying $4,416 a year (and was quoted $7500+ at other places) for insurance on my truck. My truck is a 1500 pick up that I use for both personal and business as I'm in construction.

In Manitoba I was paying $2,880 a year and this was after I had an accident. Before the accident my insurance was $2400 a year.

I am concerned with the lack of government regulation on vehicles insurance providers.

I normally am not one to vouch for government regulation, but coming from Manitoba and seeing the price difference between Manitoba Public Insurance (a government insurance entity) and private insurance providers like Wawanesa.

I am asking that the government of Alberta step in and regulate and/or start their own insurance entity.

As that is the main reason for the price difference between Alberta and Manitoba.

As a government entity they would/should be less concerned with profit unlike private insurance companies.

These companies are legally extorting Albertans with their high pricing. Yes I understand there have been many claims recently, and many reasons for the increase, but I also know since covid, every single company has been and continues to raise prices just because they can.

I'm sure I speak for many Albertans when I way we cannot take it anymore. Something needs to be done.

Yours truly,

-Ronald Traverse
