Regina Transit — Demand Immediate Protection for Passengers and Bus Drivers

Regina Transit — Demand Immediate Protection for Passengers and Bus Drivers
The Issue
Regina’s public transit system is becoming increasingly unsafe—not just for passengers, but especially for the bus drivers who operate it.
As a concerned citizen, I can no longer stay silent. What is happening on our buses is unacceptable!
Our transit operators are being subjected to a disturbing and growing pattern of verbal abuse, racial slurs, physical assaults, threats, drug use, public indecency, and harassment. These incidents are not rare. They are becoming a daily reality.
The existing protective measures—such as basic barrier doors—are insufficient and ineffective. They offer little to no real protection against violence or escalation. Drivers are vulnerable and unsupported while trying to do their jobs.
This is a public safety failure. And it demands immediate action from the City of Regina and its leadership.
We are calling for the following urgent changes:
-A consistent police or Alternate Response Officer (ARO) presence onboard city buses, especially on high-risk routes and during evening hours.
A full redesign and upgrade of driver barriers, creating secure, fully enclosed spaces that offer real protection against threats of violence.
Improved emergency response protocols and onboard alert systems, enabling operators to quickly call for help with fast response times.
Increased coordination with mental health and social outreach teams to safely manage issues related to addiction, homelessness, and psychiatric crises.
Every day that passes without these protections in place is another day a driver could be seriously injured—or worse…
We rely on these transit workers. They deserve to feel safe and appreciated at work, just like anyone else.
This is no longer just an issue—it’s a matter of public safety.
Please join me in demanding immediate action to protect Regina’s bus drivers and restore basic safety to our city’s transit system. This is not a problem we can ignore any longer.
