The Issue

On a tragic morning, June 27th 2025, Two White Pine County teens lost their lives. Two were left with serious injuries. One was left with minor injuries but mental trauma. The emotional and physical scars from this event will forever remain with all of the teens involved. Totaling the Victims to 5.  Despite the gravity of this incident, the driver responsible received nothing more than a slap on the wrist. It felt like a direct blow to us, the families of the victims, who expected justice and accountability.

The driver responsible for this deadly crash was not quite 18 years old at the time, yet he made the adult decision to get behind the wheel while under the influence of both drugs and alcohol. He was impaired, angry, and reckless. As he drove, those in the vehicle begged him to pull over and slow down, but he refused. He would not listen. He would not stop. Instead of making the safe choice, he continued driving dangerously, ignoring their pleas, until his actions resulted in a devastating and irreversible tragedy.

Adding to our suffering was the conduct of the Victims Witness Services and the Juvenile Court Judge. Instead of advocacy and support, we were repeatedly misled. We were promised that broader county issues would not affect our case, yet the District Attorney missed the final two court hearings using these issues as justification.

Such negligence and a lack of proper advocacy in the justice system can lead to further injustices in White Pine County. Families like ours should never feel abandoned or deceived by those meant to protect and serve them at their most vulnerable times.

We demand a comprehensive reform of the justice system in White Pine County, focusing on the effectiveness and transparency of the Victims Witness Services and the accountability of the juvenile court judges. The rights and voices of victims and their families must be prioritized and protected.

We propose mandatory training for all involved in the judicial process, emphasizing the importance of victim advocacy and responsibility. Furthermore, there must be strict oversight to ensure that county-level issues never impede the delivery of justice. We need commitments to enforce laws that adequately punish offenders and support victim recovery and dignity.

Please join me in urging the local government and judicial authorities to take immediate action. Together, we can call for a system that serves and protects its citizens, not one that abandons them. Sign this petition to advocate for a justice system that truly stands for justice and accountability.
