Reevaluate UK's Net Zero Strategy: Promote Synthetic Fuels and Hydrogen Power

Reevaluate UK's Net Zero Strategy: Promote Synthetic Fuels and Hydrogen Power
The Issue
This petition stems from a deeply personal concern for the UK's automotive industry. We must also protect and sustain our industries. The UK car industry, once flourishing, is now at risk due to imposed unachievable delivery figures and fines.
The UK government, along with others worldwide, is currently advocating a shift toward electric vehicles for the masses as part of a strategy to achieve net zero emissions. While the overall goal of reducing emissions is laudable, the fixation on electric vehicles may not be the most viable solution.
More consideration should be given to alternatives such as synthetic fuels and hydrogen power. Synthetic fuel is a type of liquid fuel that is made from abundant raw materials such as natural gas or even carbon dioxide. Furthermore, hydrogen, as a clean and sustainable source of energy, has a profound potential in not just vehicles but across various sectors.
Incentivising the production and use of such alternatives through government subsidies could lead to revolutionary breakthroughs. Studies show that the use of synthetic fuels and hydrogen power could play a significant role in reducing emissions while preserving the automotive industry (Energy Transitions Commission, 2017).
Adopting a more flexible strategy, rather than strictly enforcing electric vehicles, could take into account the interests of various stakeholders including automotive manufacturers, employees, and, of course, the environment.
Let us encourage our UK Government to protect our homegrown industries and continue to lead by adopting a comprehensive and inclusive climate change strategy. Please sign this petition to show your support.
