Reduce mental health issues in Australia through holistic education

The issue

We urge the Australian government to prioritize the implementation of a comprehensive preventative education program focusing on holistic well-being in all Australian schools.

Alarming statistics reveal the gravity of the mental health crisis facing Australian youth. According to recent studies, approximately one in four young Australians experience a mental health disorder by the age of 25, with depression and anxiety being among the most prevalent issues. Furthermore, rates of substance abuse, violence, and self-harm are on the rise, underscoring the urgent need for preventative measures.

We call upon the government to ensure that mental, physical, and emotional health education is integrated into the curriculum of all primary and secondary schools across the country. This education should be given the same importance as traditional subjects, as it equips children with essential tools and skills to navigate life's challenges and maintain their overall well-being.

By providing children with the knowledge and resources to prioritize their mental, physical, and emotional health from an early age, we can create a healthier and more resilient generation, ultimately reducing the prevalence of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, violence, and other detrimental behaviours.

We urge the Australian government to take proactive steps in implementing this vital initiative to secure a brighter future for our youth and our nation as a whole.
