My name is Veronika Tsepkalo, I represent the team of Valery Tsepkalo, a former presidential nominee in Belarus. 

Today I want to appeal to the international community:

On August 9, 2020, Lukashenko lost the presidential elections in Belarus. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya has become the only legitimate President in the country.

According to exit polls, according to the official results at various polling stations, as well as the counts of real ballots photographed by Belarusians, we can tell that over 80% of the votes were cast for Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.

Under pressure on the part of the regime, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was forced to leave the country. But I want to assure you that both I and Valery Tsepkalo support Svetlana. I know in what dirty and vile ways the regime puts pressure on people: they use our children, husbands, relatives and friends in order to force opponents out of a race or discredit them in the eyes of the public.

Only the authorities do not understand that the people are already fighting not only for Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. People are fighting for their future, for the future of our children, they are fighting against falsifications, forgeries, humiliation and insults coming their way from the authorities. Lukashenko has been clinging to the throne until his fingers turned blue, his hands are already stained with the blood of the Belarusian people. He doesn't think twice to use violence against women and teenagers to stay in power. The hit squads use truncheons, firearms, gas, water cannons, brutal force, and beatings against unarmed civilians.

Belarusians are fighting for a fundamental right - free and fair elections.

Lukashenko blatantly lies that protests in Belarus are controlled from abroad, or that the Internet, mobile communications are being cut off in the country by foreign powers. We have been lied to for 26 years and now the lying continues. Lukashenko wants to hide the crimes against the people, the genocide of the Belarusian people, from the entire global community.

I appeal to the entire global community, please, help stop the chaos that is happening in Belarus. Help stop the bloodshed.

I call on you to recognise Svetlana Tikhanovskaya as the only legitimate President of Belarus, to help release political prisoners and help us hold free and democratic elections.
