The issue

Henley Park in Enfield has been designed as a welcoming space for families, friends, and most importantly, our beloved dogs. For years, the dog park at Henley Park has been a sanctuary where our four-legged friends can run, play, and interact in a safe environment. Unfortunately, this space has been compromised, as it is currently being utilised for cricket matches all day both on Saturdays and Sundays.

This means that only 22 people monopolise the entire field for the whole weekend, rather than being able to be used by hundreds of dogs and their families.

The cricket matches run all day 9am - 4pm, both Saturday and Sunday. In winter, this leaves only 1 hour for dogs to use the park before the sun sets.

Henley Park serves a diverse and growing community that deserves access to their shared resources. The dogs lose out on essential exercise and socialisation and an important community space is not able to be used on the weekend when demand would be the highest.

We urge the Burwood Council to reconsider the allocation of Henley Park spaces. It is crucial to balance the needs of all community members. The cricket organisation is also not local. Potential solutions could include scheduling cricket activities on alternative fields within Enfield or for shorter matches (e.g. 3 hours).

By signing this petition, you are not only supporting the preservation of designated recreational spaces but also the right of dogs and their owners to enjoy the park as it was originally intended.. Please sign this petition to ensure the dog park is reinstated to its rightful purpose.
