I am a nobody who has been heavily fixated on The Umbrella Academy since it began, as have many others. After the release of The Umbrella Academy new and final Season, fans have left in outrage and disappointment at how characters  were treated and “assassinated,” in other words “ruined and not the same.” I, and many others believe that the romance arc between Five and Lila was the start of this problem. The writers left the characters to die while still not addressing the out of character, and deeply frowned upon “cheating” between two very beloved characters. Fans viewed Lila and Five as a platonic friendship and are in outrage at the sudden-unexplained and unnecessary romance that did nothing for the plot except feed drama and end the show on a poor note. 

Fans complain that this specific arc has overshadowed the entire season, making the entire season seem horrible and rushed. Fans are also disgusted at the gap in age between the actors, and how the writers seemed to wait just until Aidan Gallagher (actor of Five) was of age to do the romance arc.

this petition asks the writers and filmmakers to debate redoing the arc. Steve Blackman was stated saying that he wanted Five to have a romance. This can still happen with different characters other than Lila Pitts. Fans wished Derek, from the CIA, had more of a plot, and in a rewrite, have Five and Derek be the romance arc for the season without tearing apart fans beloved characters. This petition also asks for writers to write in more scenes regarding Five and his family, not removing his “all for my family” mindset, and not replacing it with a “all for my lover” mind. We ask to have more deep family moments between Five in the last episode, giving Five better characterization that relates him more to his previous season mindsets of the family-oriented man. We ask that the family does not leave off hating each other for actions without addressing them first.

now would be a great time to change things as the season only just aired, and would leave fans feeling complete and heard.

The fan base should get a say in how their favorite show ends, and this petition politely asks for the writer and filmmakers to consider changes so we can all end this show with a good taste in our mouths.
