Bring Blooket Back To MCPS!

The Issue

Blooket has been key to student learning by reinstating topics in a fun and engaging way. Another way Blooket does this is through its system of Blooks. Blooks are squares that are free to all, and do not involve micro transactions, and overall are just another cool cosmetic in Blooket. Furthermore, the Blooks in Blooket further incentivize learning by leveling up, and the coins feature, all while allowing students to actively learn more. However, recently, MCPS has blocked the sign in feature in Blooket. This disables the Blooks feature, and makes playing Blooket for educational purposes more boring. Many teachers use Blooket to make learning fun and engaging, but the new changes are trying to prevent this.

Students are harshly affected. Blooket is a widespread learning website supported and used by teachers all around MCPS. I, a student myself, have also been affected. Many of my friends have also been affected. Schools throughout MCPS are thoroughly affected. Most schools in mcps and the United States use Blooket to help their students engage and study in work that would seem boring otherwise.

As you may state, “There is still kahoot and gimkit.” Although these are both very fun and engaging websites to learn on, they are not as viable as Blooket. Blooket is useful for self-studying because of its features to play an assortment of games to learn from.

If Blooket's sign in feature is not reinstated, the students of MCPS will be incredibly dissatisfied, and disappointed. This might make the students prone to bad academic behavior, and might cause bad behavior as a whole.

Students are not able to start Blookets themselves anymore, so self studying is not viable. Students usually start Blookets themselves to learn, since they do not want to use other studying methods such as Quizlet, or Flash cards. Both are tedious and boring. Blooket is a good way to motivate students to learn by themselves, and make them more independent. Since Blooket is based on games and learning, it is a very good way to make students not realize they are learning, while still learning.

Although sometimes, students also use Blooket to play video games, this is the only downside about unblocking the sign in, but giving students a fun way to learn is very good for motivation and confidence. Teachers can make Blooket allowed, but only if they are using a helpful set, as goguardian is a application that allows teachers to see what their students are doing.

The marketplace in Blooket is a great initiative to encourage students to continue to learn and expand their knowledge, not only does it add an incentive, it also allows students to feel the excitement of obtaining a new Blook. The concept/idea of Blooks is something that encourages students to always improve and continue learning for their OWN benefit, if the students are not lucky, they will want to study more so they can get more coins. It gives students a reason to play unlike kahoot which just has games and no incentive such as currency. Putting a restraint such as this greatly saddens everyone due to all the hard work we have put in to unlock all these digital characters, etc.

As all of us are MCPS Students, we all anticipate the return of Blooket. We understand that it may not happen, however, bringing it back would help improve learning environments and encourage students to learn new things every day and try their best in school. Blooket can not only be used as a fun game, it can also be used as a review/flash card set that motivates students to improve. Thank you for taking the time to review and read this, please consider bringing Blooket back.

Sincerely, the students of MCPS
